What do you do with my donation?

All donations and proceeds go back into improvements to the course and amenities. The next scheduled projects are going to include a covered picnic shelter, finishing the cabins for overnight guests (which are available on a limited basis now!), a thunderstorm shelter on the west side of the course, and improved signs at the Tee pads, improved Tee pads, among other improvements!

Where do I go to the bathroom?

There is a portable toilet at the main camp. While out on the course for number 1 it’s okay to water the trees.  Please do so discretely.

What clothing and equipment should I bring?

Layers are key. The high country can change weather conditions several times a day. In the thunderstorm season it is helpful to have a rain jacket, and footwear should be sturdy, durable and non-slip. Mornings can be cool and typically it will warm up to bright sun during the middle of the day. In the afternoon thunderstorms are a possibility. The wind will also likely pick up in the afternoon as the high valley heats up. Remember, bring those layers so that you are always comfortable. Bring sunscreen and lots of water. You will be hiking around at an average altitude of 9,420′ so you will need to hydrate. Sunglasses, a hat, food, and your full set of discs.

What discs do I need? / Do discs get lost often?

Bring your whole bag. There are a large variety of shots at DTR. There are tight, technically challenging shots through heavy woods in the “north forest” as well as big, wide open long shots across the grasslands on the “eastern prairie”. Links type course design and a variety of fairway layouts are the showcase of the “western grove”. Uphill drives, big drop shots, dog-legs, bombs, tight finesse shots…it’s all here. There are no water hazards on this course and the only OB areas are the roads. It is close to impossible to lose a disc here. We have Ponderosa and Bristlecone Pine trees and they both have a tendency to hold on to discs. If you can’t knock it out they will eventually come down on a windy day and end up in the lost and found for pick-up at a later time.

My significant other wants to explore the area while I play. What is nearby?

There is quite a lot to do within an hour drive of the ranch. Como is 20 minutes away and has an awesome art gallery – Mountain Man Gallery. Fairplay is about 30 minutes away and has antique stores, museums, restaurants, an awesome brewery (South Park Brewing), art stores, etc. Buena Vista is about 50 minutes to the southwest. There are several hot springs in that area that we really like. Cottonwood Hot Springs and Mt. Princeton Hot Springs are both family friendly. Lots of fishing opportunities are around and there are 3 reservoirs: 11 Mile, Spinney Mountain, and Antero.

Tags Matches?

We host the Foothill Flyers as well as Mile High Disc Golf Club tags matches. We will post upcoming matches on our website as well as on their respective Facebook pages. We look forward to having you join us for these highly enjoyable special events. Other groups can reach out to me @ (719) 323-0721 and I’ll be happy to work out the details of setting up a tags match at the ranch.

Oops…I broke something…what happens now?

If you break something or injure someone it is “on you.” With reasonable care and caution neither thing should happen. It is always important to keep in mind that you are responsible for the consequences of your actions. You will be expected to cover all of the costs associated with any damage to property, people, equipment, or anything else that is harmed as a consequence of your actions.

How difficult is the course? What is par? What is a good score?

The course has a wide variety of shot types: big bomber shots (#4, #5, #12, #14, #17), highly technical accuracy & finesse shots in heavy trees (#8, #9, #15, #16), up shots (#3, #10), down shots (#4, #10) and more. That being said, the course philosophy is of risk vs. reward. A seasoned player with a well rounded game, having a good day, and managing the course well should be able to shoot par (72). Par shouldn’t feel like a miracle…and this course is designed to be a fun and challenging experience. The 2-meter rule is not in effect unless the course director calls for it for a specific tournament.

I’ve never played in Colorado/High Elevation, what can I expect?

Players familiar with mountain courses in the Rockies will already be comfortable with the effect that the altitude has on the flight characteristics of their discs. Higher altitude makes discs fly more “stable”, just like a tailwind. We have several big open areas that function as a driving range where you can get a feel for the altitude if you usually play at much lower elevations.
